Ben Rosener of Motor City Bengals revisits the Jose Iglesias trade for the Detroit Tigers.
Trades can be somewhat hard to judge when they are made. Because of involved prospects, it can take years to decide which team came out ahead. For the Detroit Tigers, years have passed since the team acquired Jose Iglesias. The shortstop was acquired a day before the 2013 July Trade Deadline in a three-team trade…
We generally agree with Rosener, but the trade had very little effect on any team involved.  Jake Peavy had a difficult time at Fenway, and Avisail Garcia has done nothing for the Chicago White Sox. The only reason the Tigers won this trade, is because Jose Iglesias gives them a quality bat in the infield.  Defensively, however, Iglesias is extremely mediocre, so he's not a long term starting option. In the end, yes, the Tigers got the better end of this forgettable trade.
