The San Diego Padres have acquired outfielder Jon Jay from the St. Louis Cardinals for infielder Jedd Gyorko and Cash.

The Cardinals will take on $26 million of the remaining $33 million of Gyorko’s contract over the next four years, as reported by Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

Jedd Gyorko has been nothing but a disappointment for the Padres. His moderate power has only been accompanied by a career .247 batting average. The potential, however, has always been there. Between AA and AAA in 2012 for instance, he hit .311 with 30 home runs. Perhaps a move away from Petco Park will be good for him.

Jon Jay only had 210 AB’s in 2015, but adds quality depth for the Padres outfield. Although, this trade was likely more about the money.
