It’s quite clear the Yankees are dangling All-Star outfielder Brett Gardner in front of other teams with hopes of seeing what’s available in the trade market and the Chicago Cubs have attempted to take the bait, offering up their shortstop as collateral.
Apparently the Chicago Cubs have offered up Starlin Castro as collateral, and the Cleveland Indians have offered Carlos Carrasco.  There has to be more to a deal for Brett Gardner,  because Castro and Carrasco are not on equal playing fields.  My guess is high level minor pitching talent would also have to be involved in the Cubs deal. Either way, clearly the Yankees have two major needs, infield depth and starting pitching. I expect them to fill those voids one way or another this offseason.
