Buster Olney of ESPN reports that the New York Mets are interested in free agent outfielder Dexter Fowler.  There priority, however, remains Ben Zobrist.

Former Mets, second baseman David Murphy and outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, are free agents.  It doesn’t appear that the Mets have much interest in bringing either of them back.

If this is the case, it’s a good decision on the part of the Met’s font office.  Both Murphy and Cespedes will likely be overvalued due to last seasons deep playoff run.  Then again, so will Zobrist, as many teams are interested in his services.  Zobrist, however, offers more in terms of offense and getting on base. In 2015 he hit .285 with a .361 on-base-percentage.  Fowler also has a similar offensive skill set.

With that starting rotation, the Met’s have the freedom to be creative on offense, and don’t need to overpay a free agent.
