Could the Cardinals be preparing to make a run at free agent slugger Chris Davis? According to Jon Morosi, the Cardinals are looking at Chris Davis and have already reached out to his agent. "The St. Louis Cardinals are interested in free agent Chris Davis and have had discussions in recent weeks with his agent, Scott Boras, according to major-league sources. The Cardinals, sources say, are intrigued by Davis' ability to play first base, third base, right field, and left field. He started games at all four of those positions during his tenure (2011-2015) with the Baltimore Orioles."
As if the St. Louis Cardinals need more.  Free agent slugger Chris Davis, however, could be a good fit for the Cardinals.  First base has been relatively inconsistent for them, and Chris Davis can provide depth at other positions. He may also be the most affordable 40+ home runs in baseball due to his .265 average and 199 strikeouts.  Those kinds of swing and miss numbers of course also come with a bit of risk.
