Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Los Angeles Angels are making progress on a deal with free agent third baseman David Freese.

The Angels would like to bring Freese back as they have limited in-house options at third base, and the free agent market is slim at that position.  Pedro Alvarez was recently non-tendered by the Pittsburgh Pirates, but played primarily first base in 2015.

David Freese was a .257 hitter with 14 home runs in 424 AB’s for the Angels in 2015. His defense at third base is also below average with -2 defensive runs saved.  Sometimes, however, your best option is to be less bad rather than better.
