The New York Mets acquire Neil Walker from the Pittsburgh Pirates for starting pitcher Jonathan Niese, as reported by Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

The Mets recently missed on free agent Ben Zobrist. Neil Walker fills a hole for the Mets following the departure of free agent Daniel Murphy.  It’s doesn’t appear that the Mets had any interest in bringing back Murphy.

Neil Walker is a solid offensive second baseman.  In 2015 he hit .269 with 16 home runs and a .328 on-base-percentage.  As with the Pirates, Walker can hit in the middle of the Mets lineup.
