Mariners Acquire Leonys Martin From Rangers
Jerry Dipoto continues to make his presence known with the Seattle Mariners. John Blake, the Executive Vice President of Communications for the Texas Rangers, reports that the Rangers have traded Leonys Martin and Anthony Bass to the Mariners for Tom Wilhelmsen, James Jones, and a player to be named later.

There is no doubt that the Mariners need help in the outfield. Leonys Martin, however, can’t be the only solution for the Mariners. In 2015 Martin’s numbers substantially dropped. He had a .219 batting average in 310 plate appearances.
What he does add is depth and tremendous upside. In 646 minor league plate appearences Leonys Martin hit for a .321 batting average with 288 total bases.
The Mariners have never been short on marquee talent. Yet, season after season they continue to fall short on expectations. This is an organizational problem, and can’t be attributed to specific players or managers. Dipoto seems to be reworking the roster as best as he can before the 2016 Major League Baseball season.
As it will with a lot of Major League clubs this offseason, look for this roster makeover to continue.
