Jake Odorizzi and the Rays Close to Extension
The Tampa Bay Rays and Jake Odorizzi are moving toward an extension.
Marc Topkin has the details of how the extension talks between the Rays and Jake Odorizzi are going here. He details how the interest is mutual and that they’re getting closer to an agreement. Steve Adams of MLBTR projects Odorizzi would make somewhere between $20 and $25 million through his arbitration years (2019). Using that…Like the Rays did with Evan Longoria, the team is likely trying to lock up there young core while they are still affordable. Especially considering how much Odorizzi may be worth in arbitration. Starting pitching is clearly getting expensive, so the Rays are probably trying to get ahead of the market.
