The left-hander heads to Oakland, as we first reported was possible on Tuesday. The Athletics have agreed to sign left-hander Rich Hill to a 1-year, $6 million contract, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports and Robert Murray of Baseball Essential. MLB Daily Dish first reported talks between the sides earlier in the night.
Well it looks like Billy Beane thinks the Oakland Athletics can compete in 2016.  Signing a reliever for $6 million a season is usually a win-now kind of move. You never know, however, with Mr. Beane.  Given the competitive nature of the AL West, Rich Hill may simply end up being trade bait in July. Either way, look for the A's to try and throw a competitive team together once again. The problem is the league is catching up.  Undervalued pieces are not as readily available as they once were.
