The catcher heads to Tampa, being traded for the second time in as many offseasons. The Rays have acquired catcher Hank Conger from the Astros in exchange for cash considerations, according to a club announcement. Conger was considered a candidate to be non-tendered by Houston before the midnight deadline.
The Houston Astros sending Hank Conger to the Rays is somewhat unusual considering the Astros gave up one of their top pitching prospects (Nick Tropiano) to get Conger from the Los Angeles Angels.  Clearly Jerry Dipoto got the better end of that deal for the Angels. Hank Conger has never had a full season to prove himself, but has shown offensive potential.  In 2015 Conger his 11 home runs in 201 AB's for the Astros.  He can also handle himself behind the plate.  Perhaps the Rays, as they often do, can ignite his career.
